Thomas, Nicholas and George Barlas all work for CSL, with the young men following in their father’s footsteps to embark on careers at the biotech company. George, now the operational readiness lead and manufacturing manager at the newly expanded $900 million Broadmeadows plasma fractionation facility, had worked at CSL for the entirety of Nick and his brother Thomas’ lives, joining the company before the float in 1993. When Nicholas Barlas was in primary school, he asked his dad, George, to speak to his class about what plasma was and how CSL used it to manufacture its products.ĭespite his understanding of his dad’s job at the time being limited to “scientist”, he was fascinated by his work and how this company turned what looked like liquid gold into therapies for people whose immune systems were not functioning properly. ![]()
